Screens that are not steps
Four places in the menu do not sit on the chain above. You reach them sideways, when the question arrives while you are looking at something else, so they are listed here rather than numbered into a path the work does not take.
One gene, read from every side at once: its identity, where it is expressed across the seven cell models, what this installation has measured against it, and what four live sources say. You arrive here when a gene symbol is the thing you hold, rather than a plant or a formula.
What an ingredient does to the organisms living on the skin, which is a different question from what it does to a skin cell and is answered by different data. It sits outside the chain because the chain ends at a human cell phenotype, and this does not.
Whether somebody has already claimed this material for this use, a question the literature does not answer. It is also an expander on a plant, a molecule and an ingredient, because it usually arrives while you are looking at one of those. It is a search, never a freedom-to-operate opinion.
Where the work is kept: the evaluations, the campaigns, the bench queue and the decision log. Not a step, because you pass through it at every step: the papers, dossiers and notes you keep along the way all land here.
